The Monadnock Defensive Tactics System (MDTS) is designed to accentuate and compliment the Monadnock Expandable Baton (MEB) and PR-24 control baton programs. It also offers a solid foundation in police defensive tactics from which more advanced techniques or concepts can be introduced. The system is principle based and was created to give the officer a base system for Personal Defense, Control and Restraint Techniques that easily “transitions” into handcuffing. The “principle based” concept identifies a problem or action and then concentrates on easily identified principles to solve or defeat the problem. This “principle based” method of training allows for flexibility when trying to “melt” this program with the many systems already established within the Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics field. The course covers stance, patterns of movements, basic escorts, decentralization, prone control, handcuffing, blocking, striking, kicking, and handgun retention. Certification is from the Monadnock Training Council. Successful candidates must pass a written, proficiency and practical instruction exam to attain certification.
